— THE PROJECT
What we found, what we did
Some of our favorite work isn't a restoration at all. This cabin in Mount Gilead is one we look after on an ongoing basis — a genuinely unique building, finished in a spruce color set off by bronze trim around the windows.
The maintenance is simple, and that's the point. Once a year we wash the cabin and check it over. That's the routine.
A yearly wash clears away the dirt and buildup that wear on a finish over time, and a yearly look catches anything that needs attention while it's still small. Kept up that way, a good finish lasts. There's no need to re-stain this cabin for decades. Every so often it'll need a topcoat refresh — roughly once a decade when things are taken care of correctly — and that's about it.
Good maintenance is what keeps a log home lasting for decades instead of needing to be stripped back and started over.
