— Media blasting
Media blasting
When logs have years of failed finish, mildew staining, or heavy graying, washing alone won't get them back to bare, sound wood. Media blasting strips it all away gently, without damaging the timber underneath, so your Perma-Chink Systems finish bonds properly and lasts as long as it should. We blast with a glass-and-corn-cob media on most home — the glass leaves less mess and gives a finer finish than cob alone.

— Our process
How we do media blasting
01
Assess & prep the media
We test a section and dial in our glass-and-corn-cob media for the surface. In some cases, we'll talk through chemical stripping as an alternative.
02
Protect the property
Windows, landscaping, and walkways are covered where necessary and shielded before any blasting starts.
03
Blast in sections
We work the home in manageable sections, stripping old finish and gray wood back to bright timber.
04
Neutralize & clean
Surfaces are cleaned of dust and residue so the wood is ready for treatment.
05
Prep for stain
Freshly blasted logs are inspected for rot, then handed straight to our staining crew while the wood is at its best.
Questions about media blasting
Is media blasting safe for my logs?
Yes — our glass-and-corn-cob media strips finish without gouging the timber, and we adjust it to your wood. It is also biodegradable.
Do I need blasting before staining?
Only if your existing finish has failed or the wood has grayed significantly. We'll tell you honestly if a wash will do instead.
How messy is the process?
We contain and clean up media daily — your property is protected and job sites are left tidy.
