Log home staining & sealing in Ohio
Most requested
Bare or fading logs are exposed to UV and moisture every day. We start by assessing exactly what your logs need, then protect them with Perma-Chink Systems' water-based, breathable coating — built specifically for log homes, not general-purpose wood. Maintained on schedule, it can go decades without needing a full re-stain, which saves you from paying to redo the job early.

Why it matters
Blocks UV graying and moisture intrusion at the source
Perma-Chink Systems' breathable finish lets logs expand and contract naturally
Maintained right, it lasts years longer between full re-stains — real savings over time
Borate treatment available to guard against insects and decay
— The product we trust
Why we only use Perma-Chink Systems
We finish with Perma-Chink's Lifeline stains — Ultra-2 for a full two-coat restoration, or Ultra-7, a one-coat finish with extra UV protection we lean on for maintenance. Both are water-based and breathable, formulated specifically for log homes, not general-purpose wood. That matters: they protect against UV and moisture without sealing moisture inside the log, so the wood keeps breathing the way it's meant to. Maintained on the schedule we set for you, the finish can go decades longer between full re-stains than a standard stain — real savings over the life of your home.
✓Water-based and breathable — moisture escapes instead of getting trapped behind the finish
✓Formulated specifically for log homes, not general-purpose wood stain
✓Prelude primer, two coats of Lifeline Ultra-2, and a clear topcoat, built up right
✓ Rebuilt this way, the finish lasts years longer before another full re-stain

Maintained right, it keeps working
How to make it last: a light wash and inspection every year or two is usually all it takes. We'll show you exactly what to look for so you catch problem spots early — instead of paying for a full re-stain before you need one.

How we do log staining & sealing
01
Wash & inspect
We pressure-wash to remove dirt, mildew, and loose finish, then walk the logs for problem spots before we ever pick up a brush.
02
Blast & prep
We strip old finish and gray wood back to bright, sound timber with glass or corn-cob media blasting — never sanding — so the new coat bonds to clean wood.
03
Prelude primer
On bare blasted wood we apply a coat of Perma-Chink Prelude primer so the stain bonds and lasts.
04
Two coats of Lifeline Ultra-2
Two coats of Perma-Chink's Lifeline Ultra-2 — the finish we've found gives the best long-term outcome — worked into checks and grain by brush and sprayer.
05
Topcoat & log-end seal
A clear topcoat locks in color and UV protection, and a heavy log-end seal goes on the log ends, where moisture draws in fastest and rot starts.
Questions about log staining & sealing
How long does staining take?
Most homes take 2-3 days depending on size and weather — we can give you a firm window at your estimate.
What if my logs are already gray?
Gray, weathered wood usually needs more extensive cleaning and brightening so the new finish color is as intended — we'll assess this at your walk-through.
Can you match my existing stain color?
If its Perma-Chink, yes — we bring color samples to your estimate and can match or refresh your current look.
Why Perma-Chink Systems instead of a standard stain?
It's formulated specifically for log homes — water-based, breathable, and built to last decades longer when maintained. That means fewer re-stains and real savings over the life of your home.
